Nov. 9th, Veterans day
jgreen writes "For those of you who don't know, Nov. 9th is Veterans Day. I thought it'd be a really cool Idea if those cadets who have their COMPLETE set of blue's (servise coat, hat, pants, blue shirt, tie etc.) then we should wear those to school on that day and seniors, if it doesn't interfear with your company's dress policy then you could wear your blue's to work. I think that this would be an excellant opprotunity to honor those who were in uniform during that time, and can also be a great tool for recruitment. Please feel free to call me (615-431-0456) and let me know of your ideas on this. thx

Cadet Programs: Group III Drill Team !!!
Anonymous writes "A Drill Team consists of thirteen cadets, a flight of twelve and one commander, and competes in seven events: Inspection, Standard Drill ( drill commands from a given list ), Innovative Drill ( a show consisting of self-created maneuvers ), A Written Test ( question from the first leadership manual and aerospace module ), Panel Quiz ( cadets are in teams of three and compete with another team of three from another drill team ), A mile run, and Volleyball. The combination of these seven events is directed at testing the cadet on how well they perform not only individually in the cadet program but also on a team.

Squadron News: Pictures from 5/29/07
Anyone wanting to see pictures from last nights meeting can go to www.tn191.org/bob and download the file by right clicking the file and selecting "save target as". You mac guys are on your own. You must have a high speed internet connection as the zip file is very large and contains most all the pictures made at full resolution. I a few days I will try to post some select pictures at a scaled down resolution on the picture section of our website. Thank you all again for looking so sharp and making the evening special for C/Lt. Offschanka and C/Capt. Pollock. Capt. Hall

Squadron News: Virginia Tech
For all those concerned, I spoke with HCS former C/Lt. Greg Jannaman today who attends college at Virginia Tech. He is fine and doing well. He said one of his fellow marching band members was killed in the attack.
Obviously it is going to be a very hard next few days for him and all the students and family. Please keep them all in your prayers.
Regards,
Capt. Hall

Cadet Programs: Tuesday Updates!!!!!!!!!!!
Offschanka writes "Cadets-
Please bring $15 for the Model Rocketry Program. This $15 includes, a fizzy flyer rocket, a rubberband rocket, an Estes Alpha rocket, an Estes rocket that carries a payload, an Estes Patriot rocket, it also includes the engines, plugs, wadding, and instructions. This is a great way to learn the history and mechanics of rockets. You will also receive a patch to be worn on your BDU's and a special badge that goes on your dress blues.
We also ask that you will become familar with STAGE ONE: Redstone of the Model Rocketry Guide. This will assist you and the instructor this Tuesday. The link is located below: http://level2.cap.gov/index.cfm?nodeID=5769
Also, this Friday and Saturday is the Curry Academy. ALL NEW CADETS MUST ATTEND!! Vetreran cadets will only have to attend for the last hour. Please keep schedules open for this activity. It is vital to the development of new cadets.
We will have packing lists, possible costs (minimal), and an activity summary for parents.
The one thing we ask is that cadets have their BDU's for Saturday. We will authorize the wear of the uniform at the parade at the end of the Curry Academy. We will also take up membership cards, and present them to the cadets at the ceremony.
WE WILL UPDATE THE WEBSITE BEFORE THE CURRY ACADEMY TO GIVE FURTHER DIRECTIONS!!!
If you have an questions, please e-mail me at k.offschanka@comcast.net
Thanks-

Squadron News: Wing Update
Commanders: I need to update you on the following items:
- The SAR EVAL Rehearsal is a GO. The exercise is listed in WMIRS and the core mission staff has been named. This exercise is being NOT being treated as training, although training will take naturally take place. This exercise is designed to enhance the success of the TN Wing in the SAR EVAL coming up in June. Therefore, the importance of the same members being involved in both exercises must be emphasized. Your Group Commanders are involved in naming the remainder of the air crews, ground teams, etc. for the exercises. Please coordinate the participation of your members through them.
The dates: 4-7 May (SAR EVAL Rehearsal) Operational days 5-6 May 22-25 June (SAR EVAL) Operational days 23-24 June
- TNCAT ’07 – Operational Days – 19-21 June; Maj Koenig has been responsible for our injects to this multi-state exercise. We have plenty of objectives to keep us busy. Please be preparing your members for at least partial-week participation in this exercise. Billeting and tent space will be available for this exercise. Proper ES qualifications will be required for participation. We are expecting 14 aircraft including some out-of-wing aircraft and crews. SER Commander Col Levitch considers this the premier SAR/DR exercise for the SER and he is strongly encouraging all SER wings to participate. Of course, he expects us to lead the charge.
THE LOCATION OF BOTH OF ALL OF THESE EXERCISES IS HENRY CO. AIRPORT (PHT).
- Lt Col Jim Lawson has been named the SER PAO. Please express your thanks for his service at james.lawson@alcoa.com. Taking his place is Capt Gary Pickens, Group IV PAO. Capt Pickens will continue in his Group IV role but will lend his expertise wing-wide. Please welcome Capt Pickens to the TN Wing staff. If you have any event, picture, promotion, etc. you believe is newsworthy please contact Capt Pickens at wxpick@yahoo.com. Capt Pickens will be in contact with each of the Group CCs in the very near future.
- Unit Commanders Course – The UCC is scheduled for 28-29 April at the McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard base in Knoxville. Commanders, this is a great opportunity to get this important training. Deadline for submittal of your CAPF 17 is 13 April. Please send your completed application through proper channels to Lt Col Wilma Ward, TN Wing PDO. Billeting is available for Friday and Saturday evenings at the base. There are several of you that need to take this course.
- One item we did not get to at the Commanders Call was the signing of the annual commitment letters. Lt Col Wilma Ward will be mailing these out in the next few days. Please return them directly to her. These letters will serve as my verification of your commitment to Tennessee Wing and the Civil Air Patrol. Thank you for all you do for this organization – your leadership is greatly appreciated. Later today, look for another email that will include an evaluation of the Command Call for you to fill out and return to me, an update on our four 90-day goals and a reminder of “True North.”
Col Barry Melton, CAP Tennessee Wing Commander

Senior Programs: Scanner School - Senior Members Only
Attention Squadron Commanders;
As you may be aware, we are planning a Scanner School for June 16-17, 2007 at John Tune Airport in Nashville.
To date, we have had very little response. We need a minimum of 8 students to make this a worth while endeavor. If you have any Senior Members (or Cadets over 18) that are interested in this class please let me know as soon as possible. We will have to make a decision within the next week whether to continue planning.
If you have members that are interested, please have them forward to me a CAPF-17. As stated before, this will have to happen relatively quickly if we are to get this class approved.
Thank you.

Squadron News: For New Recruits and Parents
I would like to thank everyone who came and attended our open house this past Tuesday night. I hope everyone was able to see a glimpse of the Civil Air Patrol and the opportunities it holds for your son or daughter. There are also many opportunities available to adults as well. Please visit www.CAP.gov to find out the other missions that CAP is engaged in.
We look foward to seeing everyone again this coming Tueday. Just a reminder, we meet at the same location at the same time, Northeast Church from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Parents are of course welcome to attend to observe or ask any questions, however, you are welcome to leave your child as well if he or she would like. We will be including our new recruits in our normal meeting schedule including drill and ceremonies and classtime. Also, just to remind everyone, we will not be accepting any applications until the following Tuesday night. It is our policy that all potential recruits come for three meetings before making a commitment to join. This is to ensure that you get a full understanding about our program and that this program is for you.
Thank you all again, and if you have any questions, please e-mail us at chall@tn191.org or commander@tn191.org.
Capt. Chad Hall, CAP TN191
